For the first time, PIETRACHIARA turns its creative axis towards lighting design with Stardust, a lamp making its official debut at Milan Design Week 2026. Like a spark expanding the studio’s universe into interior lighting, Stardust continues an aesthetic direction defined by natural material presence, tactile processes, and an imperfect detail understood as an expression of singularity.
Developed in close dialogue with Italian artisans, Stardust draws on the material quality of celestial bodies. An aluminium disc is cast around a glass sphere, setting the firmness of metal against the clean, radiant warmth of light. Over time, untreated surfaces evolve naturally, softening forms, tones, and textures, much like stardust changing composition across its journey through space.
Suspended by a slender cable, the lamp appears to float within the room, becoming its visual centre of gravity. Once illuminated, the composition recalls the quiet balance of celestial bodies in slow orbit, introducing a subtle sense of movement and depth into the space.
Each aluminium disc is cast in a traditional foundry using individually shaped sand moulds that are destroyed after every pour. The sand leaves behind a fine, irregular grain on the surface, which is then smoothed by hand after casting.
During Fuorisalone, Stardust will be presented in an exceptional setting at 5VIE Design District, inside the historic building at Via Cesare Correnti 14, in a ground-floor space overlooking the inner courtyard, where a custom-made installation titled Light Box will be unveiled.
Created through the same artisanal methods that guide PIETRACHIARA’s solid wood furniture and ceramic vases, the lamp carries forward the studio’s design language and its affinity with the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. Here, that sensibility appears in a light, almost cosmic form: like a trail of stardust suspended in space and time.
